Hardy New Year
– 2016 was a year for plenty, but for TNA, it was the Hardys’ resurgence upon their “Broken Universe.” In longterm storytelling at its finest, we saw a bold transformation from their classic selves to what we know them as today. This episode looked back on all the big moments that we’ll point you towards – The Last Man Standing match, the “I Quit” match, The Final Deletion, Delete Or Decay, The Great War and Total Nonstop Deletion. The Senor Benjamin/Reby/Broken Matt Hardy/Vanguard 1 cutscene in the Hardy living room set the show’s premise. Reby played a holiday jingle on the piano as Benjamin/Vanguard 1 sipped on “Benjamin’s Famous Coquitos.” Matt even sang a rendition of “The 12 Days Of Deletion.” He was hit with another “pree-muh-nee-shun” that at any given moment, the seven deities would reveal his next child’s gender. Yes. A clip show with purpose.

Before The Slam
– With its wacky cinematic elements and paralleled alter-egos, the feud between Matt and Jeff Hardy has been one that while absurd to those outside of the pro wrestling community, is just enough to work within it because of those involved. That said, with the two set to battle at Slammiversary, your guess was as good as ours as far as what’d be the next step in this crazy brotherly chapter. This was what the opening video highlighted, for logical reasons.

Lumberjack Adventures
– Something that TNA has done brilliantly in the “Pop TV era” has been their main event buildups. They pound it into your head that this is something you need to see. We hear from both competitors in separate interviews. Sometimes, there’s a video package. Maybe they’ll even brawl. Such is the example with the current main event program in TNA World Heavyweight Champion Drew Galloway and Lashley. The opening video showed us how we were at the stage where they were set for an ultimate showdown. They amplified it further as they showed upon a brawl in the production area when they found each other backstage, as they needed half the locker room to separate them. Way to sell it, guys. Yes.

Willows In The Wind
– In the TNA world, all eyes were fastened upon the greatly built feud between TNA World Heavyweight Champion Drew Galloway and Lashley. Their Title match was made official last week when Lashley won a triple threat #1 contender’s match with Galloway as the special guest referee. Jeff Hardy, also in last week’s match, was taken out by TNA World Tag Team Champions Decay, so we had two storms brewing.

Prepare To Be Future Shocked
– Ever since Slammiversary 2015, TNA hasn’t had the best track record for “live” shows (we put that in quotations since the show’s taped a few hours in advance), but with a TNA World Heavyweight Championship match booked as well as Jeff Hardy’s return, there was at least something to look forward to. Even though this was the second year in a row where an injury angle “took out” Hardy before an overseas tour to the United Kingdom before he returns on the first show back, we’d let it slide.
