PWI Recognizes IWTV & PAWD Titles As World Championships

 PWI RECOGNIZES IWTV & PAWD TITLES AS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) has officially conferred World Championship status on The IWTV Independent Wrestling Championship and Pan-Afrikan World Diaspora Wrestling Championship. The announcement came just hours before IWTV 100, where IWTV Independent Wrestling World Champion Wheeler Yuta made the 100th defense of the title against current number one contender Daniel Garcia. The Pan-Afrikan World Diaspora Champion, Trish Adora, was also in action as she teamed with Lee Moriarty against AEW’s Orange Cassidy and Kris Statlander. The tradition of PWI assigning World Championship status to major titles goes back decades, tracing its origins to the early years of wrestling and boxing magazines, who used the designation as a way to signal to readers which championships were most significant. PWI has been highly selective over the years in applying the World Championship distinction, in effect serving as a neutral sanctioning body for wrestlers, wrestling promotions and fans. Reached for comment, PWI Editor-in Chief Kevin McElvaney explained the publication’s decision. “Both the IWTV and PAWD belts are traveling symbols of wrestling achievement and greatness. Like the original NWA World heavyweight championship, they cross territorial and promotional lines, inviting the very best wrestlers to earn the right to hold them. Orange Cassidy & Kris Statlander Team At IWTV 100

Orange Cassidy & Kris Statlander team at IWTV 100! IWTV will celebrate the 100th defense of the IWTV Independent Wrestling Championship on Sunday, August 8th in Williamstown, New Jersey at the H2O Wrestling Center with a special live event – IWTV 100. While the title match has yet to be confirmed, two matches have been announced featuring four former IWTV Independent Wrestling Champions. Orange Cassidy & Kris Statlander vs Lee Moriarty & Trish Adora WARHORSE vs John Wayne Murdoch The Independent Wrestling title was established in 2017 and as of this moment, has been defended 97 times. The title was established in 2017 and as of this moment has been defended 96 times. Wheeler Yuta Wins IWTV Independent Wrestling Championship

WHEELER YUTA WINS IWTV INDEPENDENT WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP Worcester, MA: Wheeler Yuta is the new IWTV Independent Wrestling Champion. Yuta became the 8th person to win the Championship by defeating his rival, Lee Moriarty, at Beyond Wrestling’s event “Project Reality” on May 6th. The 50-plus minute match is being referred to by many fans as a match of the year contender and is now available on demand on IWTV. Upon winning the championship, Pro Wrestling Illustrated announced that Yuta had become the first-ever IWTV Independent Wrestling Champion to rank in the magazine’s overall Top 10.
