A crater-sized gap of missing star power and creative stagnancy for refusing to drive away from a tired formula has handicapped the current WWE product.

If it weren’t for the majority of this card having a multitude of “extreme” stipulations, we’d shudder to think how bad it could really be. There is some hope though for deliverance, but if it’s anything like the last few episodes of Raw, we’re in for a long night.

A League To Lead Us

In the wake of Seth Rollins’ recent devastating injury, WWE was forced to find a solution.

They placed the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the 2015 Money In The Bank winner, Sheamus, which was met with fans ready to riot because the Irishman hadn’t proven to be a main event player this year.

Suddenly like a Brogue Kick out of nowhere, we were given a foreign supergroup that has captivated us thus far.

Taters Gonna Tate

– After the debacle that was last week’s Raw, we tuned in to see if WWE could outdo themselves in lame booking and sure enough, they didn’t let us down. At the head of programming is the lukewarm (at best) WWE World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus-Roman Reigns feud, with a foreign heel supergroup known as The League Of Nations as the latest obstacle for Reigns. The opening video was LON-friendly as they separately introduced viewers to each member and what they brought to the group. Not only that – LON now has their own goofy graphic.

Certain Officials Stack The Odds

– The opening video chronicled the oh-so-fun moments of Raw, which basically involved the The League Of Nations’ formation upon more provoking of Roman Reigns’ minuscule 5:15 WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign by Champion Sheamus. The Authority also used the opportunity to play God with the fates of Reigns’ “family” – his cousins and Dean Ambrose, by threatening their Championship shots at TLC. And New Day were somewhere in there too, adding on to the list of obnoxious heels to overcome.

The League Of Nations Assemble

– Oh, what a mess of a show. No better place to start than the beginning though, right? Right. Okay, so in the first segment, we had The WWE Tag Team Champions, The New Day come out with confetti and slight promise, until they failed to grab us with their cheap heat material and only served to introduce the suit-clad WWE World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus, who preceded to dance while thanking Roman Reigns for failing. This was just like, huh? Didn’t New Day abandon Sheamus in their Survivor Series tag match? Is all suddenly forgiven? Just terrible. Oh, but then Reigns showed up and Superman Punched Sheamus while pyro was going off. Reigns wasn’t initially warmly received, but that changed towards the end. Why did babyface Reigns just steal the heel’s rightfully owned Championship? What was the purpose of this segment?

Turkey Edition

– The opening segment between Roman Reigns and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus was paint-by-numbers in terms of selling their Tables, Ladders and Chairs match at (where else?) TLC. We liked the idea of Reigns starting out by talking about growing up with his Uso cousins and how they bounced around the house, transitioning into the dastardly events that led to him losing his first Title in less than five minutes at Survivor Series. Sheamus was energetic on the mic, giving us glimpses of his old babyface days, going for the jokes, but something still didn’t click, even with all the canned heat. How many jokes did Sheamus make about Reigns’ short reign? Geez. Reigns tried to gain the advantage by challenging Sheamus to a fight while the heel Champion turned it down and called out Reigns’ failures once again, before Reigns described the weapons conveniently in the ring as a visual aid to what he looked to do at TLC. This didn’t advance the feud in any way, just reminded us of what we already knew. Yawn.
