Rollins The Reporter
– We applauded the Battle Royale opener to decide who’d challenge WWE United States Champion The Miz at Battleground that featured the likes of Darren Young, Apollo Crews, The Usos, The Dudley Boyz, The Vaudevillains, The Ascension, Dolph Ziggler, Baron Corbin, Alberto Del Rio, The Golden Truth and Jack Swagger. It switched things up and also gave us Young’s long-awaited “re-debut,” who now had Bob Backlund at ringside. Thankfully, Crews also got a televised entrance and even Corbin was pushed like a beast here to the end. Miz’s pre-taped promo was well-delivered and he stood on commentary, even if he messed up a few lines. The finish was okay, just wasn’t a fan of how Young was the winner mainly for how he stood in the background as Crews/Corbin went over the top rope together. Perhaps it wasn’t the planned finish? Crews looked like he tried to hold on, but fell with Corbin. Luckily, the crowd bought into it and they chanted for Young as he and Backlund celebrated in the ring. Young was later hyped for a SmackDown appearance on MizTV, so that could also be fun.

Independence Dud
– WWE and holidays never mix if you seek quality television. It was the Fourth Of July and America celebrated it’s 240th birthday with greasy grilled goodness and such. WWE threw on a three-hour Raw with the agenda of half-assedly pushing Battleground with holiday filler. It worked in some ways and was missable in many others. Case in point – the opening segment was your general locker room food party. The Golden Truth performed on stage before The Vaudevillains forced them off and then Aiden English had food thrown at him. WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz/Maryse warned everybody not to let it end in a food fight and sure enough, that’s what happened. Kevin Owens also got pied by someone in the face off-camera, Heath Slater went through a table, Darren Young sat with other heels and we knew we were in for one of “those” nights.

WWE Money In The Bank 2016 Reaction

When the words “Money In The Bank” are uttered within earshot of a wrestling fan, few things will come to mind.
Edge’s opportunistic cash-ins, the chaos itself of the MITB ladder match, past winners and probably the easiest tie to the phrase – 2011 – when CM Punk shocked the world and “left” the company with the WWE Championship after a money match with John Cena.
MITB has become a tradition itself and what does one do with tradition? They carry it on with new generations.
What happens when “The New Era” (wink, wink) collides with this concept?
Thanks to a tightly packed uppercard with three WrestleMania-worthy matches and a crazy ending, it was easily high on the list for Pay-Per-View of the Year.
Calling it the “Greatest MITB in history” before the show even streamed live was a bold statement, but one that could be hard to argue.

Same Ring, Same Time
– Obviously, it made sense to open with the appropriate moment of silence for the Orlando shooting victims, just like Slammiversary did.

Coexisting For A Common Enemy
– So, despite the flawed logic behind Shane McMahon running the show again because of “social media support,” this was a fine follow-up to last week, especially with the interaction between him and an angry Kevin Owens, who feels screwed over from everything even though his character clearly starts trouble. That’s the thing about logic. Make things simpler to invest in. Also liked that he laid things out for the night – WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte defending against Natalya, announced the idea for the WWE World Tag Team Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament and booked AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn as Zayn’s second chance at being in the Payback main event with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and Styles, taken away by Owens the week prior. Our only thumbs down with this was how Owens had to fight Cesaro to get his entitled rematch clause for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, but it could also be explained as Shane taking it away due to Owens’ actions the week before on Zayn. Either way, it gave us a reason for a Cesaro-Owens match, which is never a bad thing. Cesaro’s new “OO7” entrance will take some getting used to, but we dig it.

Eye-To-Eye
– It’s no secret to see WWE dragging out WrestleMania’s spectacle throughout the week with dashing highlight videos, and that’s what the opening video did yet again. You’d think they focus on Raw After Mania, but we’ll just sip our tea.

Time To Go Wyatt Hunting
– With a lot of WrestleMania’s build on the back burner to Roadblock, at least it was a treat to see some main roster attention paid to the Sami Zayn-WWE Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens feud. Both Owens and Zayn were introduced as guests on MizTV on this show. Did get a kick out of the interaction between Zayn and Miz, as Miz inquired about Zayn’s side of the rivalry and then “directed” him to cut to the chase. Zayn’s side of things were well-covered, as he explained how him and Owens were essentially brothers and it was Owens who turned on him out of jealousy that he received his big break first. Owens’ portion of the segment had him try to portray himself as the victim and that what he did wasn’t personal, but that Zayn made it personal when he eliminated him at the Royal Rumble. They bickered until Zayn challenged Owens to come to the ring, to which Owens complied, but backed out last moment. Neville interrupted and he made it known to Owens that they had unfinished business. Since this is SmackDown, you know what that means – brief scuffle between the segment participants and an impromptu tag…

The League Of Authority
– The opening video highlighted WWE World Heavyweight Champion Triple H’s walloping of Roman Reigns at the end of last week’s Raw in a bloody assault, the Champion christening himself as the almighty, untouchable authoritative law in WWE.

Sympathy For The Devil
– The opening video reminded us all of that time Roman Reigns outlasted both the “Ambrose Asylum” and “Suplex City” in one night, defeating Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar to earn the main event spot at WrestleMania, fighting WWE World Heavyweight Champion Triple H.

Here Comes The Money
– One night after Fastlane, the opening video highlighted the triple-threat main event between Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar, with the winner moving on to face WWE World Heavyweight Champion Triple H at WrestleMania. As you’d imagine, the video showed us suplexes, low blows, brotherly teamwork, two announce table powerbombs, steel chairs and an asylum-crumbling spear from Reigns to win. Despite WWE’s keen editing team’s attempts, the crowd wasn’t all that enthusiastic to the victory.
