ECW Guilty As Charged 2001 Reaction
By Nicholas Jason Lopez
Extreme Championship Wrestling personified its essence through brutality, rampant sexuality and thanks to Owner Paul Heyman, logical booking that accentuated the strengths of his ever-changing roster and deemphasized its weaknesses.
Unfortunately, its biggest weakness came financially.
Without a new national television deal, ECW only lived on Pay-Per-View, but it wasn’t a given that when Guilty As Charged aired in January 2001, it’d be the last time they’d grace airwaves.
Axe the two house shows that followed this and you can even call this the final chapter if you choose to.
What it’ll be remembered best is for the potential of what could’ve been, but it worked out for the two companies to form from ECW’s ashes and for that, we’ll need the jury to be unanimous here. No objections.
Notes In Observance – WWE 205 Live 1/3/17: The Neville System
By Nicholas Jason Lopez
“Notes In Observance” features random thoughts and analysis on recent television shows. Quick results can be found at the bottom of the post.
(Aired 1/3/17)
The Neville System
– The opening video highlighted last week’s WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann-Neville main event. Since his rabid heel turn, Neville has aggressively pursued the Title and christened himself the “King Of The Cruiserweights.” We got a more serious Swann, but he was outdone by the angered Neville. Nice production job as we heard the Brit’s promo soundbites from his cocky sit-down interview. Neville downed the Champ with an impactful superplex and assumed to be in line for a future shot.
Notes In Observance – WWE NXT 12/28/16: Osaka, Osaka

Osaka, Osaka
– The opening video hyped up the NXT Championship rematch between Champion (at the time) Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura. Yup, they’d show the entire match again in its entirety (this was even before their steel cage match), but the good part was that we’d see the rest of the Osaka event. A two-hour NXT show on a holiday week? What a gift. By the way, to read our review of the Joe/Nakamura match, check it here.

Hail The Crown
– The opening video recapped Neville’s aggressive heel turn at Roadblock: End Of The Line, as they worked in promo soundbites that put over his frustrations. On Raw, Neville defeated TJ Perkins and challenged WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann to a match on 205 Live. After Swann accepted, Neville ambushed him from behind and hit the Red Arrow. They’ve begun to have Neville act like “Mr. Anti-America” to justify his heelish ways, or more like a shrugged response to fans’ cheers. It’s so-so, but at least a Neville-Swann match had our attention. Then, there was also a “Gentlemen’s Duel.” More on that below.

Room For Only One King
– As it should, the opening video recapped the Roadblock: End Of The Line WWE Cruiserweight Championship Triple-Threat where Champion Rich Swann survived Brian Kendrick and TJ Perkins, but wasn’t ready for Neville’s anger storm. In seconds, he went from humbled fan favorite to sinister villain and we loved it. They spliced in last night’s Raw angle that set the night’s tag team main event, as Neville boasted himself “The King Of The Cruiserweights” and gained a convenient friend in Kendrick as they beat the babyfaces down again.

Still Feeling Lucky
– The opening video recapped last week when WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann successfully defended against Brian Kendrick in their rematch. There was some accidental physicality between the “good friends” of TJ Perkins/Swann, as we ended with Swann laid out with a superkick meant for Kendrick. As we know, we’ll get a Triple-Threat for the Title at Roadblock: End Of The Line. One has to assume that we’ll get more build. The main event would be Swann-Perkins.
