Beyond Regulation

– This round of reviews will chronicle AML Wrestling LIVE’s Episodes #68-72 and an “online exclusive” bout. It has been some time since AML had been around, so we were eager to dive into the pool. The Online Exclusive match between The Regulator and JR Reynolds was the result of Regulator’s (a masked, agile Braun Strowman-esque monster) backstage assault on his former opponents in a tag team called LaBron James. Yes, that’s their names. A constant with these episodes was that the mic audio was hard to pick up with the crowd out there. Luckily, Regulator had a great manager in “THE” Tommy Thomas and we didn’t even need to hear him to get what he said. Reynolds came out as “the next victim” and had a fair, though generic build with a beard, tattooed body and muscles. It was noted to be his debut, as he expected a Regulator squash at the least. Commentator Blake Chadwick noted the improved entranceway, though it looked unspectacular. The match’s story was decent as we saw Regulator dominate early on with a body scissors submission before Reynolds battled back. In fact, this was the most vulnerable Regulator has looked, especially when he almost lost after Reynolds hit a modified frog splash. However, as quickly as that came, the momentum switched again and Regulator hit his double underhook sit-down powerbomb finisher to end it. Might we suggest they name it “Pure Regulation”? Anyways, Thomas’ post-match promo christened his protege a “future Champion” as he bullied around Interviewer Tim Blaze.

You Have To Do What You Have To Do

– Filmed back in March at America’s Most Liked Wrestling’s “Never Enough” event from Yadkinville, North Carolina, AML fans were in for a treat – the first-ever match between “The Exclamation Point” Steve Anthony and Damien Wayne. A big episode highlight was Anthony’s heel charisma, who practically had it out of his pores. Decent separate promo exchanges before the match – Anthony overconfidently bragged about his recent New Japan Pro-Wrestling stint and how he was better than Wayne, while Wayne was fixated on his two losses to Zane Dawson, but wouldn’t let it deter him from Anthony. Anthony reminds us of Greek God Papadon in a good way. It’d be awesome to see them team up one day. On the other side, Wayne comes off as a mix between Stone Cold Steve Austin and “American Badass” Undertaker. Anthony’s heel tactics were great, whether it was how he trolled the Referee with the ring ropes multiple times or even chopped him on the chest when he grew frustrated. There was also some solid in-ring storytelling as Anthony dominated the bout from the point where he hit a stun gun on Wayne to knock him to the outside. That said, some bad botches by Anthony soured this one a bit from perfection, namely the huracanrana/springboard moonsault attempts, but his charisma and personality covered it up enough where it wasn’t a complete distraction. A cool moment where Anthony hit a running lariat on Wayne who sat upon a chair on the outside floor. Decent exchanges of near-falls down the stretch, but the finish sort of took us by surprise. Wayne attempted a German Suplex and in the midst of pulling on the Referee, Anthony used his leg to hit a backwards low-blow to steal the contest. Branded as a possible signature win, we’re certainly behind the idea of Anthony getting a Title shot soon. On the other side, Wayne had a little out for the loss with Dawson on his mind. Good post-match promo by Anthony as he made use of the vocal ammo the win provided and Wayne sold the low-blow excellently with the way he staggered. Needless to say, this was Anthony’s best AML effort to date.
