Before The Slam

– With its wacky cinematic elements and paralleled alter-egos, the feud between Matt and Jeff Hardy has been one that while absurd to those outside of the pro wrestling community, is just enough to work within it because of those involved. That said, with the two set to battle at Slammiversary, your guess was as good as ours as far as what’d be the next step in this crazy brotherly chapter. This was what the opening video highlighted, for logical reasons.

Trouble In Charge

– Dixie Carter’s an interesting lady. While we applaud the idea that the show’s “chaos” behind the feud between TNA World Heavyweight Champion Drew Galloway and Lashley prompted her to give the show to someone else for the night, it didn’t make sense. That said, who ended up in charge was okay. We also saw highlights of how Jeff Hardy earned the right to face his brother Matt at Slammiversary, with the storyline focused on Matt’s darker character after Jeff took him out. The last of the highlights focused on the Ethan Carter III-Miracle feud.

May Mayhem

– In a world of goofy episode name decisions, TNA were beside themselves. Who thought up “May Mayhem”? Good lord. On the surface, there was potential. Ethan Carter III was on the last stop on the “Road To Redemption” as he’d battle “dark” Matt Hardy to get the chance to take on The Miracle at Slammiverary. Also previewed in the opening video were an Ultimate X match (for the X-Division Championship we assume) and an Al Snow-Grado match. The latter actually received good storyline support, so not a bad night on deck here.

Lumberjack Adventures

– Something that TNA has done brilliantly in the “Pop TV era” has been their main event buildups. They pound it into your head that this is something you need to see. We hear from both competitors in separate interviews. Sometimes, there’s a video package. Maybe they’ll even brawl. Such is the example with the current main event program in TNA World Heavyweight Champion Drew Galloway and Lashley. The opening video showed us how we were at the stage where they were set for an ultimate showdown. They amplified it further as they showed upon a brawl in the production area when they found each other backstage, as they needed half the locker room to separate them. Way to sell it, guys. Yes.

Notes In Observance – TNA Impact Wrestling 5/3/16: A Decaying Evolution

A Decaying Evolution

– The opening cutscene with Lashley going to a gym where TNA World Heavyweight Champion Drew Galloway was training and conducting an interview let us know right away that Lashley was out to make a statement that the belt was his and was his reaction to Galloway calling him out all these weeks. In essence, it was booked perfectly. Okay, the fact that camera crews happened to be there for both men separately was reaching, but the message was still there. Did they really need to conveniently land in an MMA ring? Not really, but it helped establish Lashley’s “dominance” in that area.

Hale And Hardy

– Only in TNA would you have a ladder match where the winner controls the division also include Champion of said division. Anyways, the match involved Gail Kim, Madison Rayne, Velvet Sky, Marti Bell, Rebel, Maria and Knockouts Champion Jade. If Jade won this, couldn’t she simply book herself not to defend the belt ever? We did like the fact that commentary addressed this logic hole later in the match by having The Pope say that every Champion had to defend their belt every 30 days, no exceptions. It was also cool to see Rosemary play a factor by attacking Kim and having her Decay buddies escort her out, an apparent kidnapping. Of course, Maria loved this. The powerbomb by Marti Bell was pretty, but not replay worthy. Maria and a kendo stick reigned supreme and before long, she assumed control of the Knockouts. Are we back to the “glory days” of a Knockouts authority figure a la Brooke Hogan? Good god, we hope not.

Hardy Family Tradition

– The Hardy brothers continue to lead the show along with TNA World Heavyweight Champion Drew Galloway and with Tyrus creeping along in the background with a Title shot anytime of his choosing that he has to declare. It’s all building to a point. In a time where TNA is running on borrowed time with guys like Bobby Roode and TNA King Of The Mountain Champion Eric Young, they’re making the most of it by focusing on other talent. The opening video highlighted last week’s Galloway-Matt Hardy match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, showing how Jeff “evened the score” so his brother couldn’t cheat his way back to the gold.

Revenge

– TNA World Heavyweight Champion Drew Galloway has solidly built up credibility from beating a growing list of opponents, recently adding Jeff Hardy to it the week before, outlasting the daredevil at his own game. This show would feature the biggest wrench in Galloway’s Champion plans, as former Champ Matt Hardy vowed to get back his old gold. On the other side, Eric Young couldn’t live with Jeff still standing and looked to do something about that, evidenced by the opening video.

A Cemented Legacy

– With TNA suddenly donning Drew Galloway as their new World Heavyweight Champion, some may disagree based off how the product had freshened thanks to Matt Hardy’s new “Iconic” heel character, but if anyone would win it from him, Galloway was a fine option. It appears that Galloway’s primed for a top run and this could be the start of something good. The opening video highlighted the happenings of the previous week’s #1 Contender’s gauntlet match, as Jeff Hardy outlasted his brother to the end, becoming the first guy to take on Galloway for the Title, which’d happen later this show.

Get To Action

– Most of 2016’s beginning was dedicated to building Matt Hardy and his growing “Brand,” with his wife Reby, Tyrus and Rockstar Spud as unstoppable forces when banded together. Matt was on the verge of a complete career resurgence with his “Iconic” character and held on to the World Title with a strong grasp, even though we knew Drew Galloway was waiting in the wings. Perhaps it was risky to take the belt off Matt so soon, but if it’d go to anybody, Galloway was a fine choice. The opening video showed how it all went down last week, with Galloway undoing a fully thought-out Matt plan to keep his Title.
