Ultima Lucha Part II

– The opening video was essentially a “celebration” of Lucha Underground as a whole, since its future is uncertain as of this writing. We can hope that there is a second season with all of the positive buzz it has garnered amongst new and hardcore fans alike with the way that the product meshes both reality and fantasy with Lucha Libre. It also essentially took what failed with Wrestling Society X and Lucha Libre USA and made it work with a roster full of established veterans and new faces. The video package highlighted the very first segments of the show from Dario Cueto introducing himself, to Prince Puma becoming the first Lucha Underground Champion, wrapping its way into all the main feuds coming to a payoff – Texano-Blue Demon Jr., Johnny Mundo-Alberto El Patron and Mil Muertes-Prince Puma. It was fitting that the video closed with Cueto’s “brainwashing” message to Black Lotus that El Dragon Azteca was the one who killed her parents.

Final Medallion Melee

– Ultima Lucha has become a stacked card with eight announced matches. It’s a lot for a two-hour special, so the announcement that it’d start a week earlier made sense with a two-hour special still on August 5 with the rest of the show. It’s going to be a great show if it lives up to the matches’  buildup thus far. The opening video did a decent wrap-up of The Aztec Medallions and their significance (a big focus on this episode; the one loophole left that finally got closed), the Chavo Guerrero Jr/Blue Demon Jr. alliance and where Big Ryck counted into things as the man who fights where the money is.

For Mexico

– As always, the opening video did a good job of putting a brief “spin” on the current feuds – with this episode focusing on Chavo Guerrero Jr. and his quest to gain all the power in The Temple, as well as showing the Big Ryck/Delavar Daivari “money-inspired” alliance and then of course, everybody’s favorite deadman luchador, Mil Muertes, who will now be in the main event of Ultima Lucha fighting for the Lucha Underground Championship.

A Sacrifice Unfulfilled

– The Chavo Guerrero Jr.-Dario Cueto segment in the office revealed that Guerrero was out to assist Cueto in informing him of Black Lotus’ intentions to kill the caged brother “Matanza” at all costs, while working with El Dragon Azteca to wipe off his debt, but his loyalty to the highest bidder fit the character and if we know anything about Cueto, he had money galore. This set the tone for the later segments as Cueto summoned Guerrero to bring back Lotus to him in exchange for round-the-clock protection from Mexico.

Unlimited Heights

– The opening video as always, does a good job of reeling the viewer in to current issues and feuds, by using clips from weeks prior. Highlighted here were the Hernandez-Prince Puma, Delavar Daivari-Texano and The Crew-Ivelisse/Son Of Havoc/Angelico feuds.

A Two-Man War

– If you’ve been keeping up with the product lately, then the opening video wasn’t anything riveting, as it mainly hyped the initial moment when Alberto El Patron and Johnny Mundo met, and looked back at when The Crew lost to Angelico/Son Of Havoc/Ivelisse for the Trios Championships, subjecting Dario Cueto to threaten them with his literally caged brother if they lost again.
