The Perfect 10 Meets An 11

– General Manager William Regal’s promo set the tone for the show, as he announced key moments like Tommaso Ciampa/Johnny Gargano vs. The Vaudevillains, an appearance from Bayley and of course, the NXT TV debut of Shinsuke Nakamura. Should be an entertaining hour.

The risk you run with putting on a WWE Network Live Special so close to WrestleMania 32 (less than three weeks actually) and selling the show as the chance to “shake up WrestleMania profoundly,” there’s a good chance what they sell likely won’t happen.

After all, why jeopardize everything built up so far? That’s the problem. Mania never had a solid build to this point besides for a confirmed Hell In A Cell match between Shane McMahon and The Undertaker with WWE control on the line, one that has made little sense besides the usual McMahon family overtones.

That aside, Roadblock stemmed from Toronto and looked like a glorified house show, with almost every belt on the line for no good reason and that made it even harder to believe anything would change here, but that’s not to say the show didn’t deliver quality-wise.

– The opening video hyped the big NXT Champion Finn Balor-Neville main event, high flying against death-defying. How much better could it get?

New Personas

– American Alpha continue their “onward and upwards” push, this time outlasting the former NXT Tag Team Champions in Blake/Murphy after 10 minutes. AA were their usual dose of suplex and amateur-esque finesse, while Blake/Murphy provided decent foils. The main story (like with most AA matches) was Chad Gable selling hard for the hot tag, having it pulled away from him numerous times before finally getting it, and then Jason Jordan takes over the final minutes, culminating in Grand Amplitude.

Back To The Drawing Board

– The opening video did a cool recap of the big NXT Championship #1 Contender’s match between Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe, with each man having a different reason to want to be NXT Champion. For Joe, it was about the “inevitable” while Zayn was eager to get back what once was his and become the first two-time NXT Champion.

A Friendly Battle

– NXT continues to make moves in 2016, this episode taking place in the CFE Arena in Orlando, Florida, a packed house ready to make themselves heard. The opening video did a good recap of hyping the NXT Women’s Championship match between Champion Bayley and #1 Contender Carmella. This was your “bestie relationship” being tested with a grand prize thrown in the middle.

(Aired 2/3/16)

Proving Ground

– This was one of those “in-between” episodes that focused on particular talent while setting things up for future episodes amid squash matches. The show’s key contest was the non-Title rematch between NXT Champion Finn Balor and Apollo Crews, which looked to continue where the first one left off before getting unceremoniously interrupted by Baron Corbin.
