Glorious Actions
– At their first-ever encounter at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, Shinsuke Nakamura beat Samoa Joe to become the new NXT Champion. There had to be some intriguing way to set up a reason to want to see the guaranteed rematch. Boy, did it happen here. A lot of credit for the opening in-ring segment with Joe and Nakamura. Joe did his best to make like he had turned a new leaf and learnt from his mistakes as Champion while he dealt with hecklers and claimed their words were deserved. He called out Nakamura and told him he had respect for him, that he was a worthy Champion. It had ended with the news that as soon as Joe was medically cleared to compete, he wanted his rematch. He called for a handshake before he went to the back as Nakamura posed in the ring. The shocker came the moment Joe ambushed Nakamura on the ramp and let loose his true intentions all along – to sucker the Champ into a sick attack. Now, it wasn’t quite to the level that Mark Henry did in 2013 with his fake retirement speech, but the key was that Joe said and did enough for us to let our guard down, even if we slightly felt an attack coming. They alluded to an attitude change ever since the show after TakeOver and that made the attack all the more buyable. Joe culminated his attack with a Bookend onto the steel steps before medical trainers took over and put the Champ on a stretcher. A cool mini-swerve that came off even better as it was played up like a legitimate injury, as we saw the Referee throw up the “X” and even Corey Graves came down from the commentary booth to check on Nakamura as did NXT General Manager William Regal.

Bay Ridge Gets Barraged
– To start the show off, we saw highlights of the latest happenings in the adventures of “Shining” Edward Jackson and his darling family, as a chairs match between Reality Check’s Craven Varro and the newly turned Devon Moore occurred. This had obvious grudge match proportions and we saw some rough spots where high impact moves landed on chairs instead of the canvas. Things looked brutal down the stretch, but the real news came in the finish, where Varro had Moore laid out, but Jackson contested that his protege was injured, using the distraction to allow Moore to take advantage and steal the win. Going out of this, we see the EJFive gain another one over Reality Check. Where will it lead next?

Bonesaw’s Ready
– The Devon Moore-Craven Varro match was a cool way to round off the opening minutes, as we finally had storyline progress to one of the longer-awaited angles – Moore turning heel on his Reality Check members and screwing Kevin Matthews over in the process, being revealed as Helmet, the guy who stalked and videotaped Matthews. At the same time, Moore joined the evil graces of “Shining” Edward Jackson and his family, making The Jackson Five much alive again in 2015, just in a different form. Loved Varro’s intensity at the start, charging the ring and blindly rounding off fists at his former partner, making it all clear this was about revenge. Commentary by Pat Buck and David Adams backed this all up well, explaining in detail just how Moore executed his dastardly plan and also helped talk up an eventual showdown with Matthews. That said, this should’ve been a “stepping stone” of sorts to that and we would’ve had Moore use dirty tactics to win, but it didn’t go down like that. Not exactly, anyways. Varro took a hellacious bump when he slammed his shin on the metal barricade on a top rope springboard moonsault attempt, then later having a gash near his eyebrow open up, giving us the element of blood to sell the fight. It’s amazing what a little blood can do to tell a story in the ring. Somebody should remind Vince McMahon, huh? There were some convincing near-falls towards the end as Varro never willingly gave in, also showing off more believable anger with a middle finger-fueled Coast-To-Coast maneuver. The DQ finish which saw Jackson pull the Referee out of the ring was more confusing than anything, but luckily, that set up the post-match actions that made us quickly forget it when Moore hit a shooting star press with the aid of a steel chair. We still walked away with the idea that Moore was stronger and we wanted to see Matthews kick his ass whenever he gets the chance.

The Dirtiest Martini In The Bar
– The opening video chronicled the much-hyped three-way hardcore PWS Championship rematch where Dan Maff finally completed his personal comeback and emerged the new Champion, in a match chock-full of chairs, blood, barbed wire, staple guns, a 2×4, thumbtacks, tables and a defining Burning Hammer through a door. It’s the era of Maff indeed. Would’ve been nice to have some follow-up promos on this since it was the only time mentioned in the show, but perhaps it’s for the future.

Breaking Down The Door
– Big Deal Craig Steele came out with his entourage Club Taboo, introducing Sandy Mann – who came down to the ring with style and class from the bleacher seats. Love the alliance of the two characters, as they’re a good “party” fit. Mann’s opponent was Johnny Howl. Okay, so the match wasn’t all that. Some rough spots with timing and styles, particularly the botched moonsault, but it served as a way to get Mann over with Steele’s help with the shot glass blast to get the win. Jake “The Snake” Roberts came out to deliver Steele some proper DDT-esque revenge. Is this going to lead to a tag match of some kind?

Swerve City
– The Tri-Force match between Eddie Kingston, The Lifeguard Mike Del and The Abominable CPA was an interesting dynamic to say the least, as it featured two big heel egos taking on the awkward accountant. It was also nice to see Nikos Rikos back on the show, as he’d been absent, making himself known as quite the hustler in a short time. Made sense for him to come out, cut a heel promo and sell his match spot to Lifeguard, but at the same time, we have to wonder just when we’ll see him in true action. His character has already been built as a hustler. It’d be nice to see more of his in-ring skills. Also, looking at a guy like Eddie Kingston, he has so much more potential to be tapped into in PWS, we just hope he’s at the top of the card sooner or later. The match was mainly all about CPA, with nice nods to video games with his moveset, which eventually had a helping hand in his victory. For what it was, Kingston’s facial expression holding the clip-on tie after getting pinned with a small package was priceless. As for where it stood with the rest of the show, the match felt insignificant. This was more of a way to remind us of CPA, which worked in that regard.

Double Trouble
– It only made sense for The Aesthetic Enterprise to get put into the match against Monster’s Island as Bonesaw’s partners, only eager to wrestle once finding out Balls Mahoney would also be in the match. Bring on the many testicle puns. Where exactly do Phillip Simon II and The Scranton Strangler fit into things though? That was never quite explained to us. Doesn’t Bonesaw have no friends?

Stepladder To Success
– The show began replaying Chris Payne’s promo towards The Lifeguard Mike Del that provided a visual aide of a pool in the background with no lifeguard present as Payne spewed his usual catchphrase with confidence. Lifeguard’s promo segment was new and featured him dumping Ashley Massaro over the phone. Interesting turn of events as his new gimmick is that of looking for a new “beach babe” by using a magnifying glass, which sounds about right.

Hands On The Merchandise
– Starting things off with The Jackson Family outside a restaurant making light of their opponents in the Tag Team Championship gauntlet match that was 24 hours later (The Reynolds Brothers, Team Espana and The Handicapped Heroes) set the point that they weren’t focused on the goal at hand and just wanted to party. As usual, “Shining” Edward Jackson delivered impressive rhetoric that bordered on offensive when it came to Team Espana, but that was the point. Heels doing their heel thing.
