Bleacher Creatures

– The opening video gave us a recap of ongoing storylines with talent we’d see on the episode – El Dragon Azteca Jr. wanting to prove his own legacy to Rey Mysterio Jr., Captain Vasquez’s new “Luchador” mission for Officer Reyes to go back into the Temple with a mask to continue his infiltration of Dario Cueto from the inside, Famous B’s proposal to guide Texano and Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo’s goal to take The Mack (his newest challenger) to “Slam Town,” since we last found out that they’d go at it for the belt in an “All Night Long” bout.

Top 20 Of 2016

Graphic by Salwinder Singh.

“It.” “Delete.” “Obsolete.” “The List.” “10.” “The Champ That Runs The Camp.” “Stupid Idiot.” “Glorious.” “Too Sweet.”

The list above describes a fiesta of phrases commonly found in pro wrestling jargon that made 2016 possibly its best year ever.

The one below describes select moments that help seal that argument and make us forget about things like The Titus Brand, The Cruiserweight Division, Raw’s Third Hour, WWE’s overloaded Pay-Per-View schedule, TNA’s X-Division and Matanza Cueto.

If you want to remember that bad stuff, check this out.

Worst 10 Of 2016

2016 was possibly professional wrestling’s most newsworthy year.

Whether it was “Broken” Matt Hardy, Chris Jericho’s transformation into a walking meme, Goldberg’s unexpected return or the Cruiserweight Classic, everywhere you looked, there was something to talk about.

For all those moments however, came some head shakers.

With the unenviable task to cover every single 2016 episode of Raw, SmackDown (even before it was “Live”), NXT, Impact Wrestling and Pay-Per-View/Live Specials (all 29), we’ve seen things that cannot be forgotten.

We’re here to bring them to light.

A Famous Opportunity

– The opening video recapped current storylines – Angelico returned to cast revenge against Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo, only to have a restraining order against him. Cage and Texano battled in a Best-Of-Five Series to determine who’d get Dario Cueto’s “Ultimate Opportunity,” as Cage currently had a 2-1 lead. Jeremiah Crane wanted to get his hands on Mil Muertes, as a way to get back at Catrina, whom was a former love interest. Lastly and most interesting, after weeks of declining Vampiro’s advice, Prince Puma finally listened and paid Grave Consequences. In the afterlife, Vampiro called for him to follow.

The Battle Of The Bulls Commences

– The opening video recapped Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo’s journey to become Champion, as he uncrowned Sexy Star with help from Taya and his Worldwide Underground “bandmates.” We were also shown the moment where Angelico returned and vowed revenge against Mundo, to which the Champ apparently had a restraining order put forth. The “Ultimate Opportunity” Best-Of-Five Series between Cage and Texano was also shown where last left off, Texano staved off elimination and was still down two matches to one.

Armbreaker Hotel

– The opening video hyped the Gauntlet match where Pentagon Dark would face all members of The Black Lotus Triad, with the catch that it wasn’t over until he faced all four members. This stemmed back from when BLT debuted in Aztec Warfare III with an attack on Pentagon, revenge from when he broke Black Lotus’ arm at Ultima Lucha Dos. At least there was lengthy history. Since this was the only storyline featured, we assumed this would magically take up the whole hour.
