2 Cold 2 Hold
– We got a fresh twist on the typical “wrestling legend meets overzealous rookie” storyline, as we’d see 2 Cold Scorpio (of WWE and ECW fame) battle Timmy Lou Retton, wrestling’s “only male gymnast” with a style/build similar to WWE’s Big E. TLR’s backstage promo was quite on point and helped establish him as a confident “olympic heel” who saw 2CS beneath his level. On the other end, 2CS had his usual “funky” swagger and was eager to teach the newcomer a lesson gained from his own personal experiences. The match itself was okay, as the crowd responded to 2CS, but not so much to TLR. The place was also a plodded one, but things came together well enough by the end to allow for some near-fall drama. LTR nearly put 2CS away on two occasions before he fell victim to the Scorpio Splash upon a missed 450 Splash attempt. It seemed the goal here was to show that TLR had impressed the legend enough to have him get his hand raised after the match. 2CS’s post-match promo expressed that same sentiment, though we had our guards up from an expected TLR attack, but it never materialized. Interesting.
